Sun-Dried Tomato & Garlic Cream Cheese

Flavored cream cheese is really good spread on homemade bagels.  Since we made Sun-Dried Tomato and Parmesan Bagels, we thought this cream cheese would taste really good on the warm bagels.  We were right!

Ingredients and Equipment Needed:

1 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened

1 clove garlic

1/4 cup oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, drained well

2-4 tablespoons whipping cream

How to Make Garlic & Sun-Dried Tomato Cream Cheese:

1.  First take a head of garlic and peel some of the papery skin off.  Then break off the individual cloves.

2.  It's really easy to peel the cloves if you put them on a cutting board and put a knife on top - make sure the knife is facing the cutting board and the sharp part of the blade isn't sticking up.  Then hit the knife with your hand and it will smash the garlic clove.  The papery skin will fall off.  Make sure you are very careful when you hit the knife; you don't want to hit the sharp blade.

3.  When the garlic cloves are peeled, you can slice them.  Make sure you keep your fingers out of the way.  If you aren't comfortable slice the garlic cloves, ask an adult to help you.

4.  After the cloves are sliced, cut the slices into really little pieces.

5.  Open the package of cream cheese and dump it into the mixer.

6.  Use a scraper to get every bit off of the wrapper.

7.  Add the garlic and the sun-dried tomatoes

8.  Turn the mixer on low speed and mix everything up.  Turn the mixer off and scrape down the sides, then turn it on again for a minute or two to make sure everything is mixed really well.

9.  Transfer the mixture to a serving dish and spread it on your bagels.  If you're not serving it right away, cover it with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge.
