Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream Topping

Even though the store-bought chocolate topping is  pretty good, this homemade topping is much, much better.  At our slumber party we made this to go over the homemade ice cream that we were making in the automatic ice cream maker.  We only ate half on the ice cream and kept dipping our fingers in the rest.  Of course we didn't do that when the adults were around!  In fact, we would never admit it to anyone!

Ingredients and Equipment Needed:

  • Microwave Safe Bowl
  • Large Measuring Cup
  • Wire Whisk
  • Microwave Oven
  • Rubber Scraper

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 cups whipping cream

How to Make Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream Topping:

1.  Measure the chocolate chips into a bowl that can go in the microwave. 2.  Pour the whipping cream over the chocolate chips.  You don't need to stir it yet. 3.  Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on high power for 3 minutes.  Take it out of the microwave and let it sit on the counter for 5 minutes.

4.  Now use a wire whisk to mix it.  At first it will seem really thin, but as you whisk, it will thicken up.  If it gets too thick to drizzle on the ice cream, just add a little more whipping cream.

5.  Of course we aren't really supposed to stick our fingers in things, but this topping was just too good to resist.  It tasted even better on our homemade ice cream.  6.  You don't have to put any on your nose, but since we were having a party we did.  It was much better on the ice cream.
